How it works
How are fuel prices set in Pakistan?
Since 18 July 2026, OGRA works out petrol and high-speed diesel prices every working day and publishes each notice on its website. Before the switch, the government revised prices weekly from late May 2026, and every fortnight before that.
The daily price follows a seven-working-day rolling average of the international (Platts Arab Gulf) price and the State Bank of Pakistan exchange rate, so a change in world oil prices reaches the pump over about a week rather than in one jump.
Taxes and margins are added on top. In the notice effective 14 October 2026, a litre of petrol carried a petroleum levy of PKR 80.00, a climate support levy of PKR 5.00 and customs duty of PKR 24.93, plus freight, oil marketing company and dealer margins; petrol was exempt from sales tax. The levies are notified by the federal government.
OGRA’s notified price excludes secondary freight, so the price at a particular pump can differ slightly.
