How it charges
What is Salik and how does it charge?
Salik is an electronic toll: there are no booths. A tag on your windscreen is read as you pass under a gate, and the fare is deducted from your Salik account. You are charged per crossing, so a commute that passes two gates each way is four crossings a day.
Two pairs of gates count as one crossing if you pass both within one hour in the same direction: Al Safa North and Al Safa South, and Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South.

How much does Salik cost at peak and off-peak times?
Salik has used variable pricing since 31 January 2025: a higher fare in the morning and evening rush hours, a lower one the rest of the day, and no charge overnight. From 1 June 2026, 5% VAT is added to every paid crossing, taking the peak fare from AED 6.00 to AED 6.30 and the off-peak fare from AED 4.00 to AED 4.20.

How can you cut your Salik costs?
Lever 1 · Timing
AED 2.10 less a crossing
Off-peak instead of peak
Lever 2 · Route
Cheapest or toll-free
Compared before you leave
The biggest lever is timing. A peak crossing costs AED 6.30 and an off-peak one AED 4.20, so moving a daily two-gate commute out of the rush hours saves AED 4.20 each way. Crossings between 1am and 6am cost nothing.
The other lever is the route. Many trips have a toll-free alternative, but it is hard to know how much time it adds before you set off. Guardian AI shows Fastest, Safest and Cheapest routes side by side, marks which ones pass Salik gates, and offers toll-free options, so you can decide whether a gate is worth it on that trip.
After the drive, the trip shows the estimated Salik and fuel cost together. To see how tolls and fuel add up on a commute, read how to work out the cost of a trip.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
What is Salik?
Salik is Dubai's electronic road toll. Overhead gates read a tag on your windscreen and deduct the toll from your Salik account each time you pass through. There are 10 gates.
How much is Salik now?
AED 6.30 per crossing at peak times (6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, Monday to Saturday) and AED 4.20 off-peak, including the 5% VAT added from 1 June 2026. Crossings between 1am and 6am are free.
How much is Salik on Sunday?
On Sundays the off-peak fare of AED 4.20 applies all day, and 1am to 6am is free. Public holidays, special occasions and major events can follow different rates.
Am I charged twice for the two Al Safa gates?
No, if you pass Al Safa North and Al Safa South within one hour in the same direction you are charged once. The same applies to Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South.
How can I spend less on Salik?
Drive outside peak hours where you can, since an off-peak crossing costs less, and check whether a toll-free route is practical for your trip. Guardian AI's Cheapest route option and route list show which routes pass Salik gates before you leave.
Does Guardian AI add Salik to my trip cost?
Yes. Guardian AI adds the Salik gates your trip passed to the estimated cost of the drive, alongside the estimated fuel cost. It is an estimate; your Salik account shows the actual charges.
